Joanna Lemon, The Art Garage

I am an artist, mom, wife, and a small business owner.  Though I am more than just those things, they are the parts of me that take up the most of my time, passion, and energy.  I have an undergraduate degree in education and a masters degree in consumer economics.  I recently transitioned from an art studio space in a brick and mortar to a mobile business concept.  This move has allowed me the ability to bring art to children all over Alabama.  I have been privileged to teach very young children but I have also had many opportunities to teach adults. I love helping people, whether young or old, gain confidence in themselves to try something new. I am grateful for commission clients, schools that have invited me to partner with them, and the Arts Council of Tuscaloosa for supporting me and encouraging me year after year.  I also have deep appreciation for the love of art instilled in me at a young age by my parents.  I am overwhelmed at the support my husband, sons, and family have given to me to help others around me become a little more creative. This upcoming school year, I will be leading a traditional visual art class for K-4th Graders at Faucett-Vestavia Elementary School (Northport, AL). Last school year, I led the 2nd Graders at Greensboro Elementary (Greensboro, AL) through a traditional visual art program that impacted the students in that area tremendously. We are so grateful to have her as a Teaching Artist for the West Alabama Arts Education Collaborative!
